Speak the Truth - "In The Beginning was the Word."

In the beginning was the word, and the word was made flesh.

It is crucial to speak the truth until it becomes engrained in our bodies, in our flesh. Once engrained, we start to move and act in accordance with the truth.

The problem is when we convolute the truth for what is wrong and start integrating falsity into our lives. Defining “The Truth” is well outside the scope of this little blurb. To summarize, when I say truth, I mean anything that leads to more order, peace and goodness, as it relates to our relationship with food and or our bodies.

Think of a coach rallying his team prior to a big game or a King rallying his army before battle. First words, then a rising up from within, then movement straight into battle.

You don’t believe you are capable of something ? Say the words, “I-am-capable.” Now with everything you have muster the motivation (muster the Rohirrim!) and start acting as if you can do this. Once you start acting as if you are capable you might fail but, you gained self-respect and valuable data for course correction. Or, you succeeded and in doing so proved to yourself that you are capable. After living the, “I am capable narrative” you might genuinely take on a new, more effective belief.

At my lowest point of depression and disordered eating I had to reason, logic, speak and then move myself to act in accordance with what I knew to be true and good as opposed to continuing down the path of self-destruction. I was standing over the sink doing the dishes stewing in my mental and poor decisions filth. From deep down I decided to sing, “Hallelujah Anyway” by Matt Maher and Rend Collective. I felt disgusting, the song was so starkly different from how I felt and how I was previously acting. But I sang anyway and started to renounce the beliefs and decisions that were not serving me.

I chose different words and my whole being followed suit.

Belief starts with narrative and a narrative starts with words. Dare to mutter, “I can do this.” You don’t even have to do whatever “this” but at least give yourself a fighting chance.
